Privacy policy

Effective 15 October 2026

Friend Radar ("the app") shows you which of your friends are nearby. This policy explains what data the app processes and why. The app is run by Przemysław Bujalski, who is the data controller. Contact: privacy@getfriendradar.com.

Data we process

Building outlines (on by default, can be turned off in the radar settings): to draw nearby buildings, the app downloads OpenStreetMap data for the area around you (squares of about 400 m) directly from the public Overpass API (overpass-api.de, run by FOSSGIS e.V. in Germany, or, when it is busy, its public mirror overpass.private.coffee). That server sees your IP address and which area is downloaded, but no account or friends. Each area is downloaded at most about once a month and kept only on your phone.

The app does not use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not collect location in the background unless you turn on the background radar.

How location is used

Your position is used only to calculate the distance and direction between you and your friends. Friends never receive your coordinates: the server sends them only a rounded distance and direction, and only when they are within the visibility radius you set. In ghost mode your position is not stored, your phone stops broadcasting its Bluetooth code, and nobody sees you.

Where data is stored and for how long

Sharing

We do not sell your data or share it with third parties, except Google as the hosting provider (and, for building outlines, the map area requested from the Overpass API, see above). Friends you accepted see your display name and Google profile photo and, when nearby, your distance and direction. People in an event you joined see you as described under Events above. If you turn on "A contact is nearby", people who have your number and you have theirs, and who turned it on too, may be told your display name when you are within about 500 m.

Legal basis and your rights

We process data to provide the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can access, correct or delete your data, and you can lodge a complaint with the Polish data protection authority (Prezes UODO). To delete everything, use Friends → Delete account in the app, or see how to delete your account.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 16.

Changes

We will publish any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above.

Podstawa prawna i Twoje prawa

Przetwarzamy dane, aby świadczyć usługę, o którą prosisz (art. 6 ust. 1 lit. b RODO). Masz prawo dostępu do danych, ich sprostowania i usunięcia oraz prawo wniesienia skargi do Prezesa UODO. Aby usunąć wszystkie dane, wybierz w aplikacji Znajomi → Usuń konto albo zobacz jak usunąć konto.

Dzieci
